Texas A&M AI Safety is a community of Aggies dedicated to mitigating the risks of advanced AI. We advance this mission by providing students with education, opportunities, and clear pathways into the field.

What is AI safety
What happens when we build something more capable than we are?
That question is what the field exists to answer. AI safety is a multi-disciplinary field built around a shared concern: we are building something we don't fully understand, faster than we're building the means to handle it. The work ranges from technical AI research to the policy and institutions built around it.
Why it matters
The risks scale with the capabilities.
Misuse
Advanced AI can supercharge disinformation, cyberattacks, and even the design of biological and chemical weapons.
Loss of control
As systems approach and surpass human intelligence, keeping them under meaningful human control becomes an unsolved problem.
Existential risk
In the most severe scenarios, misaligned superintelligence could pose catastrophic—even existential—risk to humanity.
Yet only a few thousand people work on these problems full-time. The field is small, young, and urgently short on people who take it seriously.
Our Vision
A future worth building toward.
We aren't here only to sound alarms. We imagine a world where superintelligence, built safely and aligned with human values, helps us cure disease, understand the universe, and achieve what once seemed impossible. Getting there safely is the entire point.
